Our strength stems from our committee members based in the City of Zurich

The committee of the Zurich Giants consists of four members: the President, Ulrike Senti (aka Effie), the Vice President (and coach), Darren Waldron, the Treasurer, Kerry Huggler and our Media and Communication Manager, Dominic Lanz. Half of the committee is originally from Australia, whereas the other half grew up in Switzerland. We therefore represent the cultural heritage and international spirit of our club.

Below is a brief introduction to each of our committee members and their connection to Australian Rules Football.

Effie discovered footy while she was studying in Tasmania. Her housemate introduced her to this previously unknown sport and taught her a lot about the spirit of AFL. Soon footy became Effie’s passion, such that when she returned to Switzerland she co-founded the Swiss league with other motivated people from around the country.

Darren is widely considered a gun, not only by own own players but also by other clubs; he played Aussie Rules back at home and has experience in coaching from his upbringing in Australia. With his knowledge and patience, Darren does an excellent job coaching the Zurich Giants.

Kerry is one of the cofounders of the “Australians in Zurich (AiZ)” Facebook group and therefore well connected to the Australian community within Zurich. As treasurer, she supports the club with her knowledge of numbers and helps to grew the club in a healthy way.

Tim is the designer of all our graphical content. He designed the logo, the uniforms as well as the current merchandise of the Giants. Tim is Australian himself and came to Switzerland for work. He played in the season 2020 and is one of our naturally skilled players.
